5 Truths about TRUTH for a Confused World

This is one of the most controversial concepts in the world.

Our culture treats truth like a preference or a perspective. They say, That’s your truth or Here’s my truth.”

But Holy Scripture speaks about truth as something solid, eternal, and rooted in God Himself, meaning there is such a thing as absolute truth.

Absolute truth means something is true whether we believe it or not, or whether we agree with it or not.

Need an example? Gravity is true. Death is real. God exists.

Truth does not change because our opinions change. Truth is not simply information to know. It is reality as God reveals it, and humanity desperately needs it.

The absolute truth of God’s Word frees captives, guides believers, and points us to Jesus Christ.

What Does TRUTH Mean?

Biblically, truth describes what is real, faithful, trustworthy, and aligned with God’s character and Word. Truth is what God says. Truth is what God reveals. Truth is what remains steady even when feelings change. Truth is what leads people into freedom.

1) God is the source of truth.

For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations (Psalm 100:5).

Truth does not begin with culture, politics, emotions, or public opinion. Truth begins with God.

God never lies, changes, manipulates, or deceives. Everything true ultimately traces back to Him.

👀 I see this every day. People who are disconnected from God eventually become confused about reality.

2) God’s Word is truth.

Jesus prayed, Sanctify them by Your truth. Your Word is truth (John 17:17).

The Bible does not simply contain inspirational ideas. It is the authoritative truth for God’s people. Scripture corrects us, shapes us, steadies us, and reveals Jesus Christ to us. Sometimes, truth comforts us. Sometimes truth confronts us. Both are acts of love.

🌱 Healthy Christians do not merely own Bibles. They fill their hearts with Scripture and allow its truth to transform their minds.

3) Truth sets people free.

Lies imprison people. Truth liberates them.

Jesus says, And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32).

Lies produce bondage: lies about God, lies about ourselves, lies about sin, lies about identity, lies about what will satisfy us.

Truth breaks chains because truth brings people into the light.

🔥 Many people want freedom without truth. But freedom only comes when we surrender to what God says is true.

4) Truth must be spoken in love.

“…speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head; Christ…” (Ephesians 4:15).

Truth without love can become harsh. Love without truth becomes compromise. The Bible never tells us to choose between truth and love. The Holy Spirit calls us to hold them together.

God is love. And Jesus in the flesh was the human embodiment of love. Yet, His speech was always full of grace and truth. With His Spirit in us (see Romans 5:5), we too can embody His love and walk full of grace and truth in our speech.

🪞 Some people use truth as a weapon. Others avoid truth to keep peace. Neither extreme reflects Jesus well.

5) Jesus Christ IS the Truth.

In the OT, truth is largely revealed as the character of God. In the NT, truth is fully revealed in the Person of Jesus Christ. And this is what He says about Himself: I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me (John 14:6).

Jesus is not merely saying: I tell the truth.”

He is saying: “I AM ultimate reality revealed.”

The Greek word for truth in John 14:6 is aletheia. It means reality, genuineness, and what is fully revealed. Jesus did not merely come to teach truthful things. Jesus came as Truth in the flesh; ultimate reality revealed by God Himself.

While catchy slogans, growth philosophies, and trending methods are useful, these are not what Christianity is built on. Christianity is built on a Person. Truth has a face.

Jesus reveals what God is like, what humanity was meant to be, and what salvation truly is. Everything becomes clearer when we behold Jesus Christ.

🔥 Truth is not cold or harsh when it is connected to Christ. Truth becomes beautiful when we see it through Him.

Wrapping It Up

Truth matters because reality matters.

We cannot build healthy lives, families, or local churches on deception. Eventually, lies collapse under their own weight.

But God’s truth stands. In a confused world, the Church doesn’t have to become louder. Truth does not require the loudest volume. We don’t have to yell it, but we must tell it.

Christian, let’s ask the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, to convince us and guide us to become beacons of clarity as we follow Christ.

What area of your life most needs God’s truth right now?
