What are you waiting for?

The time to thank God is now. On this Good Friday, your soul has so much to thank God for, and the evidence is all over your life.

Four times in Psalm 107, after citing reasons why, the psalmist pleads for God’s people to thank Him for His goodness.

The English Standard translates the plea like this:
“Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
    for his wondrous works to the children of man!”

The Message Bible says it like this:
“So thank God for his marvelous love,
    for his miracle mercy to the children he loves.”

God’s people (all men, women, boys, and girls) need to pause this Good Friday. Let us look to the Cross and see our Savior there. He displayed the ultimate act of God’s goodness towards us all on this day. Though I must try, such boundless love and mercy are beyond my complete comprehension.

Pause and look at your life. Do you have a family that loves you and friends that care for you? Thank God! You are a blessed person. Did you wake up in your right mind? Were you able to get dressed and begin your day? You have a level of health that many do not. Thank God! Did you go to bed last night in a safe environment without fear? Many children and adults did not have that privilege. Thank God!

Personally, I see the evidence of God’s goodness all over my life. Even before I understood what’s so good about Good Friday, the goodness of God was at work in my life.

And now that I am saved by grace through faith, I walk every day with this specific knowledge. I am a blessed man! I have a wonderful life that includes a beautiful wife, three healthy adult children, a daughter-in-law, a son-in-law, and grandchildren.

BUT wait! There’s more. God has answered so many of my prayers that I dare not stop praying. I refuse to stop asking Him for His infinite goodness to show up and show out in miraculous ways to the glory of His name.

I’m enjoying the lyrics to Evidence as they’re helping me meditate on God’s goodness.
The opening verse is my testimony: “All throughout my history, Your faithfulness has walked beside me…”
The chorus inspires me to look and: “I see the evidence of Your goodness All over my life All over my life I see Your promises in fulfillment All over my life All over my life.”
The bridge reminds me of the Gospel that permeates my life: “See the cross, the empty grave, The evidence is endless, All my sin rolled away Because of You, oh Jesus.”

Friend, the evidence is all around you. You’ve got so much to praise God for. What are you waiting for? Go ahead and begin to thank Him for His goodness. Sing a song, declare His praises, and tell somebody about Jesus and why Good Friday is so good.
