6 More Songs about Home

I love the concept of home.

This list reflects more songs about home. They’re not in any particular order.

It’s just a reflection of the concept of home. It seems like a sentimental longing that’s always been on my mind. And for all my adult life, I’ve been doing whatever was necessary to get home.

Our local church habitually employs the phrase “Welcome Home.” We sincerely mean this because we strongly believe in the biblical concept of hospitality. A home is a place of rest where you can be yourself. But at home, you also have the freedom and encouragement to grow into your best self.

Every person you know needs to discover what it means to be at home with Christ and then get connected to the church home where God assigns them as a set (connected) member of the Body of Christ. I suppose this theology has strengthened the concept of home for me as I’ve grown older.

As a Christian grows in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ, you learn that being at home with His grace brings a sense of godly contentment. But whatever you do, don’t mistake complacency for contentment. They are different concepts!

Here’s the disclaimer before I start my shortlist. This list isn’t the genre of Christian music like I posted here. But don’t get tripped up with my eclectic list. Christ is who I worship. But I do still know some non-Christian music.

Let’s start this list of more songs about home. I’ll link the titles if you want to get familiar with them. And I’ll place the release date in parentheses.

1. “Who Says You Can’t Go Home” is by Bon Jovi (2005). It features Jon Bon Jovi and Jennifer Nettles as the vocal leads. One of my favorite lines says, “I was looking for something I couldn’t replace – I was running away from the only thing I’ve ever know.”

2. “Take Me Home, Country Roads” is a classic (1971) you’ve probably already considered. John Denver sings about the beautiful West Virginia. And if you’ve ever traveled those country roads and scenic landscapes, you can understand why it’s worth singing about.

3. Next up is by Johnnyswim, and the song has the one-word title, “Home” (2014). This one has a fast enough tempo that it’s an excellent addition to the workout (slow jog) playlist. My favorite line says, “I love me some home.”

4. Daughtry sings a one-word title, “Home” (2006). My favorite part says, “Well, I’m going home – Back to the place where I belong – And where your love has always been enough for me.”

5. Since I went to high school and lived for over 25 years in Alabama, I’ll include “Sweet Home Alabama” (1974). The unique thing about this classic is that none of its composers were from “Sweet Home, Alabama, Where the skies are so blue.”

6. I’ll round out the list with “Coming Home” (2015) by Leon Bridges. The songwriters weren’t wrong with this line, “The world leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.”

*BONUS – There’s no way I could leave out the smooth vocals of Sam Cooke. Some thought of him as the King of Soul. “Bring It On Home to Me” (1962) was the B-side of the 45 that the DJs of that era played. If you own “The Best of Sam Cooke,” you’re familiar with this gem. I also love to listen to his Gospel music recordings.

This list includes music from different genres. Maybe you learned a new song or remembered a decades-old memory. I hope it was a good recollection.

In case you’re wondering, I don’t wholeheartedly endorse these writers, artists, or other music in their various genres. And I don’t have any judgment for their souls.

Enjoy the rest of your day, and don’t neglect to assemble with believers in Christ this coming Sunday morning.

If you don’t have a home church family you’re supposed to assemble with this Sunday, let me assure you. Regardless of where you’ve been or what you’ve done, you need a place where you can feel loved, accepted, and wanted.

We have room for you at Harvest Christian Center, and we’d love to welcome you home.
