Leonardo DaVinci couldn’t have known that we’d still be admiring this painting over 700 years after its completion.
It has proved to be a timeless piece of art, though its beauty was set in a particular time. One doesn’t have to be an art major to appreciate his opus for the eyes to feast upon.
I’ve often thought about DaVinci’s Mona Lisa because I have a Lisa of my own. And I confess that the crooning voice of Nat King Cole frequently echoes in my mind, “Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa, men have named you.”
My Lisa grows in beauty with the passing of time, and so does my appreciation of her. Her tender smile and the way I sometimes catch her glance at me, oh, be still my beating heart. Those beautiful eyes were the first feature that first captured my teenage heart.
I could go on with my appreciation of Lisa’s physical beauty, but that might lead you to blush and get me in trouble. But her charm is not merely outward. Yes, her inner beauty is known by good works, acts of service, and faithful love for me and our adult children. Yet, her gentle and quiet spirit makes her precious in the sight of God.
Indeed, she is a work of art, created as God’s masterpiece to give Him glory.
The godly features of her soul make me pray to be a better man, a faithful husband, and a person she can respect. My Mona Lisa will always be my forever Valentine.
As a woman who fears the Lord, my Lisa is worthy of my praise (Proverbs 31:30).
